Human Rights: TLP-Togo and TLP-Benin train around thirty young activists

Actualité

Tournons La Page Togo (TLP-Togo), in collaboration with Tournons La Page Benin (TLP-Benin), organized a Youth Camp for Human Rights Defenders (Youth HRD Camp 2025) from June 6 to 9, 2025, in Porto-Novo, Benin.

Over four days of intense and emotionally charged activities, around thirty young participants from Benin and Togo (21 women and 5 men) gathered to strengthen their skills, share experiences, and affirm their commitment to human rights.

Workshops at the heart of learning

The days were punctuated by hands-on workshops focused on personal development, project management, designing viable economic initiatives, and the core values of Tournons La Page (TLP). These essential skills aimed to equip young defenders to better navigate the social and political realities of their respective countries.

The exchanges among participants created a true space for mutual learning and experience-sharing from the field—powerful moments driven by the shared desire to build a united, aware, and mobilized youth.

Highlights: between symbolic action and discovery

One of the most iconic moments of the camp was a group jog through the streets of Porto-Novo. Dressed in TLP colors, the young people took over public space in a spirited and activist atmosphere, proudly affirming their commitment to justice, freedom, and solidarity.

Another key moment was the visit to the Songhaï Regional Center. This model of sustainable agriculture and social entrepreneurship inspired the participants, showing them that innovation, autonomy, and ecology can go hand in hand to create concrete and lasting alternatives.

A determined youth, encouraged by their elders

The presence of Professor David Ekoué DOSSEH, National Coordinator of TLP-Togo, and Elias BEHANZIN, National Coordinator of TLP-Benin, left a strong impression. Both shared their experience as activists, offered valuable advice, and emphasized the importance of resilience in the face of challenges.

A promising future

The Youth HRD Camp 2025 will undoubtedly remain a key milestone in the journey of these emerging young leaders. It proved that youth engagement in human rights is not a utopia, but a hopeful and tangible reality for the future of Africa.
