As the days go by, the silence of the Guinean authorities on the situation of Billo Bah and Oumar Sylla, abducted since July 9, 2024, is causing both national and international concern. In a letter dated September 24, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Mary Lawlor, and her counterpart from the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, Gabriella Citroni, in accordance with the mandates entrusted to them by the United Nations Human Rights Council, asked the Guinean government to provide a response on the preliminary steps taken to protect the rights of Billo Bah and Oumar Sylla. In more detail, the Guinean government is asked to respond to concerns focused on three points:
" 1- Please send us any additional information or comments in relation to the above allegations.
2- Please provide urgent information on the fate and whereabouts of Mr. Sylla and Mr. Bah. If they are deprived of their liberty, please provide information on the de facto and de jure reasons for their detention, the detainees' access to their families and representatives, and their state of health.
3- Please provide us with details and, where appropriate, the results of any investigations and inquiries or other action that may have been taken to identify the perpetrators of the abduction and presumed enforced disappearance of Mr. Sylla and Mr. Bah. If the alleged perpetrator(s) have been identified, please also specify whether any criminal sanctions or disciplinary measures have been imposed on them. ”
