Press release : Tournons La Page brings its bodies into line with its values and texts
Since November 7th, the Board of Directors of the international citizens' movement Tournons La Page (TLP) has been examining the various situations prevailing within its ranks, which are putting the values it upholds and defends to the test.
These include respect for and defense of human rights and freedoms, the universal nature of democracy and the defense of major democratic principles, the central role of citizen counter-powers and intermediary bodies in political and social life, the equality of individuals in terms of rights and opportunities, the defense of impartial and fair justice, the transparency of public action and accountability, national and international solidarity, and independence from political parties.
Unfortunately, in recent years, TLP has received a number of alerts concerning serious financial misappropriations, forgery, political affiliations and support for military regimes whose actions are contrary to the movement's principles and values. These actions damage TLP's reputation and image, and violate the movement's texts.
Hence the need, ten years after the movement's launch in 2014, to take stock of its governance. This step involves taking strong resolutions, bringing all TLP bodies and organs into line with the new texts adopted at the end of a study on the movement's governance conducted collegially from September 2022 to June 2023.
In accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Association and by virtue of the powers vested in it, the Board of Directors therefore met on November 7th and 13th, 2024, and passed important resolutions suspending the appointees Alexandre Didier AMANI, Maïkoul ZODI, Jean-Chrysostome KIJANA, Bi Kouamé Donald NENE and Arsène KOUAME, respectively President of TLP, coordinator of TLP-Niger, coordinator of TLP-RD Congo, coordinator of TLP-Côte d'Ivoire and member of TLP-Côte d'Ivoire, from any activity related to the movement.
These decisions are motivated by the serious attacks they have made on the values, image, reputation and good governance of TLP bodies, and more generally by their failure to comply with the movement's bylaws and internal regulations.
They will be applicable until the General Meeting of November 27th, 2024, which will decide on their definitive exclusion from TLP's bodies.
The Board of Directors is aware that these decisions have major consequences for the movement. They do, however, provide effective protection for the values and principles embodied by TLP. They guarantee the coherence, credibility and conformity of its players and actions with its texts, its recommendations on good governance and the law.
Tournons La Page (TLP) cannot advocate values, principles and rules that are not embodied and respected by those who lead the movement and play the leading roles.
This salutary reminder translates into action the movement's strong commitment to the principles of ethics, democracy and good governance.
