Chadian police violently repressed a peaceful demonstration organized Saturday, October 2, by the citizen movement Wakit Tama. This collective, composed of civil society, including TLP-Tchad, and opposition parties demanded justice and inclusion in the conduct of the military transition in the country.
Police used tear gas to disperse peaceful demonstrators during a march authorized by the authorities in charge of public security. Heavy fire was also directed at the party Les Transformateurs, according to its leader Succès MASRA.
Several people were injured in the crackdown, including the coordinator of TLP-Chad, Jacques NGARASSAL
Tournons La Page asks Chad: How can a march be authorized to the organizers and then repressed as if freedom of expression, of the meeting ... were not enshrined in the transitional charter, tailor-made and which TLP-Chad does not cease to decry the inclusive character.
Tournons La Page Chad demands the immediate release of those unjustly arrested and the opening of an independent investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them before the courts.
Finally, for an inclusive, open, transparent and democratic transition process, Tournons La Page Chad demands the revision of the transition charter and rejects the publication of the list of members of the National Transitional Council appointed by the Military Council, which does not respect democratic values.
