Ibrahima DIALLO - coordinator of Tournons La Page Guinea (TLP-Guinea) and head of operations for the FNDC - and Oumar SYLLA - coordinator of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) and deputy coordinator of TLP-Guinea - have been arbitrarily and illegally detained since July 30. Indeed, after more than 3 months of detention, not a single guarantee of the Guinean code of criminal procedure has been respected. As a result, Oumar SYLLA and Ibrahima DIALLO have still not been given a fair trial.
Ibrahima DIALLO and Oumar SYLLA were violently arrested on July 30, 2022, separately, by hooded and heavily armed soldiers and gendarmes, as the country embarked on a heavy repression against demonstrators who participated in rallies organized by the FNDC on July 28 and 29, 2022.
These protests were aimed at denouncing the unilateral management of the transition by the National Rally Committee for Development (CNRD). Several people were arrested and at least five people were shot. Following these tragic events, the transitional government decided to dissolve the FNDC on August 6, 2022. This was followed by a harsh repression of its members, forcing some of them to go into hiding.
Ibrahima DIALLO and Oumar SYLLA have been imprisoned since July 30 for their commitment to democracy and fundamental rights. This explains why, after more than 3 months of arbitrary detention, no trial has been opened against them, despite multiple requests from their lawyers.
To protest against this injustice, Ibrahima DIALLO and Oumar SYLLA began a hunger strike on November 7, 2022. Tournons La Page respects this courageous decision, but we are very concerned about the fragile physical health of the two activists: Oumar SYLLA and Ibrahima DIALLO both had to be hospitalized in emergency, respectively on August 12 and September 12.
Tournons La Page expresses its support and solidarity to Ibrahima DIALLO and Oumar SYLLA, as well as to their families and to the members of TLP Guinea and the FNDC.
Tournons La Page demande :
To the CNRD
- The immediate release of Ibrahima DIALLO and Oumar SYLLA, or at least the opening of a fair and equitable trial, in accordance with the code of criminal procedure;
- Put an end to the harassment, including judicial harassment, of TLP Guinea members and all dissenting voices;
To the external partners of Guinea
- To put pressure on the CNRD to respect the rule of law and the independence of the judicial system;
- To denounce the arbitrary detentions in progress.
