New arrest in Guinea, a "transition" in the continuity of the dictatorship
Communiqué  Posté le 18:22 22-01-2023, modifié le 18:22 22-01-2023 par Tournons la Page

After Ibrahima Diallo and Oumar Sylla in July 2022, a third member of Tournons La Page Guinea was abducted yesterday in Conakry. After a pretence of openness, the Guinean junta is resuming the bad habits of repression of the former regime that it overthrew in September 2021.

As Tournons La Page prepares to begin its General Assembly in Cotonou, Benin, the Guinean junta continues its repression with the arrest of Mamadou Billo Bah. He was abducted by hooded and heavily armed men as he was leaving a meeting with citizens in the Tombolia district of Conakry. He has since been kept secretly without access to his lawyers or his family.

This is not the first time that Tournons La Page Guinea has been targeted by the junta. Ibrahima Diallo, coordinator, and Oumar Sylla, alias Foniké Menguè, deputy coordinator, were violently arrested in July 2022 and then transferred to the Conakry prison. They are still awaiting trial almost six months after their arrest.

We bring our solidarity to the members of TLP-Guinea and to all citizens who are mobilising against arbitrariness and for democracy in the country. We demand the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience, including Ibrahima Diallo, Oumar Sylla and Mamadou Billo Bah.
