Niger: Whistleblower arrested for revealing the truth
Communiqué  Posté le 11-10-2021 14:25, modifié le 11-10-2021 14:25 par Tournons la Page

On Wednesday 22 September 2021, the gendarmerie summoned the young activist and whistleblower El Hadj Issa El Hadj Moussa. The latter, who is very active in the Diffa region on security and societal issues, had published a post on Facebook on September 15 in which he informed the public about the unavailability of an ambulance in the N'Guigmi health district. This state of affairs caused the death of two (2) women who could not benefit from a medical evacuation.

Nothing he published constitutes a fault on his part and does not require an arrest, except to intimidate him and discourage him from informing the public about the failure of public services.

The summoning of this whistleblower is an abject persecution that has met with the willingness of N'Guigmi district officials and authorities to gag a disturbing voice.

Tournons La Page Niger is very concerned by the relentlessness shown by the authorities against all those whose voice carries and who, through their commitment, denounce the abuses and dysfunctions in the management of the city.

Tournons La Page Niger is also aware that other whistleblowers are also persecuted for having simply revealed information in the public interest.

Tournons La Page Niger reminds the State of Niger of the imperative to do everything possible to allow people to report human rights abuses in safety.
