Niger : Another whistleblower harassed!
Communiqué   modifié le 11-03-2022 10:31 par Tournons la Page

Tournons La Page Niger has learned with indignation the detention of one of its activists, Mr. Ahmed Bello lssoufou. On March 10, 2022, around 11:00 a.m., Mr. Bello was summoned by a judicial police officer for a case concerning him. Our comrade was immediately taken to the judicial police where he was arrested based on a complaint of defamation lodged by an official of the defense and security forces of Filingué. After a few hours of interrogation in which our lawyers took part, he was taken into custody.

Tournons La Page Niger finds pragmatic the promptness with which the judicial police treat the cases of whistleblowers and other human rights defenders. It regrets, however, that the same diligence is not used when dealing with complaints of financial misappropriation.

Tournons La Page Niger calls for the immediate release of Mr. Bello and is following this case very closely, while condemning the determination of the authorities in place to obstruct the enjoyment of individual and collective freedoms at all costs.
