Floriane IRANGABIYE has been released by presidential pardon through decree no100/144 of August 14, 2024. Tournons La Page Burundi (TLP-Burundi) was pleased by this news which allows Floriane IRANGABIYE to regain her freedom after 1 year and 11 months of unjust detention, as the journalist was arrested, prosecuted and convicted for her work as a journalist.

TLP-Burundi is extremely relieved to see the release of journalist Floriane IRANGABIYE and salutes this initiative by the President of the Republic of Burundi, who has just put an end to an injustice, as Floriane IRANGABIYE's case was one of the emblematic cases followed by numerous parties, including human rights organizations.

TLP-Burundi has documented and denounced the numerous irregularities that have marred the judicial file of journalist Floriane IRANGABIYE. Her release is a significant achievement which puts an end to a long judicial harassment which began on August 30, 2022. Floriane IRANGABIYE was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment and fined 1,000,000 Burundian francs for “undermining the integrity of the national territory.” The main charge was for hosting a critical program on Igicaniro radio, which works online.

TLP-Burundi salutes the efforts of all those involved, which led to the release of journalist Floriane IRANGABIYE.

TLP-Burundi calls on the government of Burundi to continue its efforts to obtain the release of all those arbitrarily arrested, including prisoners of conscience such as trade unionist Emilienne SIBOMANA and journalist Sandra MUHOZA, political prisoners and thousands of other prisoners arrested without title or rights.
