Tournons La Page Gabon (TLP-Gabon) held its annual meeting in Libreville on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Members of the coalition and other civil society organizations were briefed on all the reforms carried out within the movement. The meeting was facilitated by Sentiment ONDO ELIBIYO, TLP-Gabon coordinator, and Michelle EYENE, NED project coordinator.
"Today, in 2024, TLP has become a full international organization", said ONDO ELIBIYO, during the presentation of TLP's new mode of operation, new vision and reorganization of bodies (national and international). He explained that TLP, a movement working to promote democracy and human rights, has an apolitical vision, meaning that none of its members can exercise responsibilities within a political party. "What is expected is that these activities are carried out objectively, not in a partisan spirit", he emphasized.
ONDO ELIBIYO's explanations also took into account the expansion of TLP's Commissions. "There's the idea of parity, which is increasingly defended and not found systematically on the local landscape in terms of organizing civil society," he added.
"This activity is part of the implementation of the Strengthening Citizen Dynamism for Democratic Change in Central Africa project, financed by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED)," said Michelle EYENE, project coordinator. This project aims to remobilize Gabonese citizens and civil society organizations, in order to generate renewed interest in public affairs.
The sub-themes addressed during this annual meeting are "strengthening the strategy for fighting for democracy by promoting citizen control of public action" and "activism".
